In the heart of Berlin, the Digital Zebra project is making a significant impact, with approximately 350 users taking advantage of its offers each week. The trend is on the rise, and the project, run by the Pilotproject Digitalzebra, is proving to be a valuable resource for those struggling with technology.

At the helm of this project is digital consultant, Lena Zerfowski. She is dedicated to helping those who find digital skills challenging, offering one-on-one consultations and digital cafés for group exchanges. Lena and her team of digital helpers attend numerous training courses to ensure they can speak clearly and make everyone feel welcome and comfortable.

One such individual seeking help is Sigrid, who considers herself tech-savvy but still encounters difficulties. Recently, Sigrid found herself stuck on her Elster account, an issue Lena was able to resolve by helping her find and correct an error in the entry of a rental apartment. Sigrid was also amazed at the number of visible Wi-Fi networks when shown how to open the view of available networks.

Another user, Krystyna, was having trouble navigating her PDF apps. Lena suspected one of them had in-app purchases, causing the payment request. Krystyna was relieved to find out that the app was free and had no in-app purchases. Lena also showed Krystyna how to slide the ear icon to answer a call, a simple solution to a problem that had been causing stress.

Public institutions are also stepping up to support digital losers, offering 1:1 consultations with digital consultants and digital cafés for group exchanges. The organization offering help for people in Berlin who have difficulties with digitalization is the Stiftung SPI. This foundation, which operates facilities like the House of Youth and House of Family in Berlin-Mitte, provides broad advisory services. Founded to support social structures and community needs, the Stiftung SPI includes digital inclusion initiatives in its mission.

Lena works collaboratively with users to find solutions to their problems, even going as far as calling hotlines together when necessary. Information gained by the guides at work is entered into a wiki to make help for the next person with the same problem easier.

As the Digital Zebra project continues to grow, more and more Berlin residents are finding the support they need to navigate the digital world. Whether it's learning how to copy and paste characters, open multiple websites using tabs, or understanding how to authenticate online, the Digital Zebra project is making a real difference in the lives of its users.
