X-Men '97 appoints head writer from What If? series as the new showrunner for Season 3.
Getting the scoop from Deadline this fine morning, Disney's brought in What If? head writer Matthew Chauncey as the new co-showrunner for X-Men '97, teaming up with series director Jake Castorena. The original showrunners, Larry Houston, Eric Lewald, and Julia Lewald, are sticking around as consulting producers.
Looks like the second season scripts have been given a little reboot following Beau DeMayo's dramatic exit. The scripts are being reworked with Chauncey now at the helm. Fresh scripts for a third season are also in the works over at Disney+. DeMayo's departure had reportedly left season 2 set with a general plan andsome initial ideas for a season 3 roadmap. Just how much of these early concepts Chauncey will incorporate remains to be seen.
Prior to this, Chauncey's previous gig includes working as a consulting producer on the Ms. Marvel series and serving as a script doctor on Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. He's also got some writer's room cred with Guillermo del Toro's short-lived Netflix animated series, 3Below: Tales of Arcadia, featuring none other than She-Hulk's Tatiana Maslany.
An air date for X-Men '97's second season is yet to be announced.
