Winner of The Apprentice Chooses Lord Sugar for Partnership in Pushing AC as Game-Changer in Home Improvements in the UK
Rolling Out the Cool Breeze:
Dean Franklin, fresh off his victory on The Apprentice and partnering with Lord Sugar, is eager to reinvent the UK's domestic air conditioning market - an industry he believes is shrouded in misconceptions.
In an exclusive chat with Homebuilding & Renovating, Franklin voiced his concerns about the widespread belief that air conditioning is a costly, energy-draining solution reserved only for cooling. He's on a mission to change these perceptions.
He also ventured to push the government to offer grants for air conditioning systems akin to those provided for heat pumps, stating, "If they're giving out dough for heat pumps, why not ACs?" Such support, he believes, could make air conditioning more accessible and prevalent nationwide.
Stoking the Fire of AC Adoption
With air conditioning installed in less than 5% of UK homes, Franklin sees a vast, untapped market to address. He attributes the lack of growth in the sector primarily to a lack of awareness and government backing.
Franklin took aim at current government policies for only subsidizing heat pumps, a select few of which incorporate air conditioners, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. While the government recently broadened the scheme to include air-to-air systems, Franklin believes this coverage should extend to all air conditioning units to help reduce installation costs.

"If they're dishing out grants for one kind of heat pump and heating/cooling system, why not the other?" Franklin questioned.
He aims to transform his company, ADL Air Conditioning, into a trusted household name in the industry, with Lord Sugar faithfully by his side. "Sugar catches on to potential - it's like when he dabbled in electrical appliances. This is no different," Franklin declared.
Franklin's Guidance for Home AC Installations
For those contemplating air conditioning installation, Franklin cautioned against settling for cheap systems. He urged homeowners to investigate brands and installers meticulously. "Budget systems have a reason to be cheap," he warned.
However, unlike other heating systems that may not suffice for certain homes, Franklin claims air conditioning installations are workable in most dwellings.
Franklin's dedication follows a grueling stint on The Apprentice, which he dubbed "the most grueling process ever." Despite the public drama, it's apparent his focus has now shifted to real-life homes and aiding them in breathing a tad easier.
The UK AC Market's Future with Dean Franklin
Franklin sees a clear void in the UK's domestic air conditioning market - and he's optimistic about bridging this gap.
"At the moment, it seems there's a massive gap in the market for air conditioning in domestic homes," he opined.
Sugar concurs, according to Franklin. "I reckon he invested in the market because he recognizes its potential," he affirmed, adding, "It's still in its infancy stages in the UK domestic market...He's navigated electrical appliances before. This is no different."
Franklin dropped hints of ambitious goals on the horizon, saying, "We've got a few strategies in the pipeline. Yes, we've got bigger targets to crush."
