WhatsApp's latest addition offers users a tidier experience without charge
WhatsApp Introduces Schedule Call Feature for Structured Group Calling
In an effort to enhance its group calling capabilities, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature called Schedule Call. This feature allows users to plan voice or video calls in advance for both individual and group chats.
To access the Schedule Call feature, users can navigate to the Calls tab, tap the "+" button, and select "Schedule Call." From there, they can choose participants, set the date and time, and select the call type. Once scheduled, all invitees receive notifications ahead of the call, and the event can be synced with Google Calendar. Scheduled calls also appear in the Calls tab under "Upcoming," making it easy for users to join.
Organizers of scheduled calls will receive alerts when participants join via shared links. In addition, WhatsApp has adopted the Raise Hand function, similar to Google Meet and Zoom, which allows participants to signal they want to speak without interrupting. This feature enables smoother moderation and turn-taking in live group calls.
WhatsApp's new Schedule Call feature also includes in-call emoji reactions, as well as the Raise Hand, Share Screen, and Send Message buttons, which appear immediately below the video windows during a call. Tapping on More in the scheduled call gives a list of invited attendees and call links that can be shared.
The Schedule Call feature is available on phones, tablets, and desktop apps, and the update is free. If automatic updates are enabled, users should receive the upgrade automatically.
With these new features, WhatsApp is moving towards fuller meeting management capabilities, similar to professional platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. This shift reflects WhatsApp's commitment to providing users with tools for organized and efficient group communication.
