Welcome communication from the newly appointed head of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN)
**New Director Appointed at Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN)**
The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) has announced the appointment of a new Director, who brings over 20 years of experience in climate change, environmental sustainability, and energy systems to the role. The individual, who has spent the past 17 years with the UNFCCC Climate Change Secretariat, most recently serving as Manager of the Technology subdivision, will now lead the CTCN in its mission to connect those seeking climate solutions with those providing them.
The CTCN is an implementation arm of the Technology Mechanism, a central body dedicated to advancing climate technology development and transfer. The Technology Mechanism, a key component of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism, facilitates enhanced action on technology development and transfer to support full implementation of the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
In his new role, the Director will focus on three priorities. First, he will provide strategic guidance and policy recommendations on technology development and transfer to Parties under the Convention, helping to identify priorities and lessons learned in technology implementation. Second, he will operationalize the Technology Implementation Programme, in coordination with the CTCN, to enhance deployment and diffusion of climate technologies through partnerships. This includes supporting developing countries with technology needs assessments and facilitating access to technology solutions. Third, he will facilitate collaboration and synergies with other UNFCCC bodies, international organizations, and stakeholders such as the private sector and academia to strengthen technology efforts and resource mobilization.
The Director acknowledges the importance of the CTCN's mission in harnessing technology for sustainable, resilient futures. He expresses eagerness to work alongside UNEP, UNFCCC, CTCN's Advisory Board Members, and all other stakeholders. The Director also expresses gratitude to UNEP for entrusting him with the responsibility.
The Director's goal is to achieve shared goals with these collaborators, driving collaboration across sectors to build strong partnerships. He aims to provide scalable solutions tailored to the contexts of developing countries and facilitate the implementation of these solutions on the ground. The Director has collaborated with key stakeholders to connect policy, technology, and expertise, and has worked with the Technology Executive Committee (TEC), the policy arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism.
Prior to joining the United Nations, the Director worked with the Indonesian government agency, a non-profit organization, and a consulting firm. The Director has contributed to shaping global climate technology policies and led the support of intergovernmental processes on technology development and transfer.
Under the leadership of the new Director, the CTCN will continue to play a crucial role in connecting those seeking climate solutions with those providing them, strengthening technology alignment with national needs of developing countries, and facilitating the implementation of these solutions on the ground. The Director's focus on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and support to developing countries will be key in achieving the shared goals of the Technology Mechanism, the UNFCCC, and the Paris Agreement.
The new Director, with a focus on environmental science and technology, aims to implement artificial intelligence within the CTCN's mission, broadening the scope of climate-change solutions and furthering the Technology Mechanism's goals. Furthermore, the Director plans to leverage academic and private sector resources to foster stronger collaborations, ensuring a robust technology knowledge base and driving progress in environmental science.
