China's Electric Vehicle Market Shows Strong Demand in July

July 2025 saw a surge in electric vehicle deliveries in China, with several brands setting new records and marking consecutive months of strong sales.

Nio Inc, a prominent player in the market, registered 7,930 vehicles for insurance in China last week, the highest in the past 14 weeks. The company's sub-brand, Onvo, also saw a significant increase with 3,700 registrations for the Onvo L90, the second-highest on record. The L90, launched on July 31, has quickly gained traction, ranking among the top three best-selling large SUVs in China within its first week on the market.

Deliveries of the L90 began on August 1, with 1,980 units delivered in the first three days, setting a new record pace for Nio launches. The first batch of approximately 10,000 L90 units sold out in under three hours at launch.

Other notable performances include Leapmotor, which delivered 50,129 vehicles in July, marking its first monthly delivery exceeding the 50,000 unit threshold. Tesla also saw an increase in registrations with 11,020 insurance registrations last week, up 3.77 percent from the previous week.

BYD, another major player, announced that its latest technology has further reduced fuel consumption of its fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) hybrid technology to 2.6 liters per 100 kilometers. This improvement is expected to boost the brand's sales in the coming months.

Li Auto, despite a decrease in vehicle registrations last week compared to the previous week, registered 5,480 vehicles, with the relaunch of the Li i8, which reduced the available variants and lowered the price.

Meanwhile, Zeekr Group delivered 44,193 vehicles in July, up 2.75 percent from June. Onvo's flagship electric SUV, the L90, was launched on July 31, and Firefly, another sub-brand of Nio, will begin deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands on August 14.
