Web3 Recognition Accolade Secured by MiniPay at Africa Tech Assembly

MiniPay, a stablecoin wallet platform designed to provide fast, low-cost, and secure digital currency transactions, has won the prestigious Web3 award at the Africa Tech Summit. The event, which took place on Feb. 13, brought together tech leaders and innovators from across the continent to celebrate and recognise ground-breaking technologies.

Owned by Opera, MiniPay was shortlisted in the web3 category alongside ICP Hub, Investa Farm, Sabi, and Yellow Card. In a competitive final, MiniPay emerged victorious, demonstrating its significant impact in driving stablecoin adoption and fintech transformation in Africa and other emerging regions.

Built on the Celo blockchain, MiniPay offers a self-custodial wallet that simplifies user onboarding by allowing wallet recovery with phone credentials instead of complex seed phrases. The platform connects stablecoins such as USDT, USDC, and cUSD to real-world financial systems and local payment methods like mobile money and cards, enabling users to fund wallets easily and convert stablecoins back into local fiat currencies across over 50 countries.

Recent developments highlight MiniPay's rapid growth, with over 8 million wallets and 200 million transactions achieved as of mid-2025, including a 255% surge in wallet activations in Q2. About half of all gas fees on the Celo network are paid using USDT via MiniPay, underscoring its central role in stablecoin activity and network engagement within emerging markets.

Partnerships with entities such as Noah, Diamo, and Binance Pay are expanding its seamless fiat on/off ramp integrations, and users will soon be able to receive payments through virtual U.S. or EU bank accounts, directly converting funds into stablecoins.

MiniPay's innovative approach, combining robust technical infrastructure with user-centric design and broad financial inclusion goals, has been well-received. It treats stablecoins as accessible digital dollars that offer greater financial stability and freedom, supporting reliable stablecoins backed by reserves and ensuring easy cash-out options through various familiar channels. The platform aims to integrate stablecoins into daily life rather than just providing infrastructure.

With this win, MiniPay continues to set the pace for stablecoin wallet platforms, demonstrating the potential of blockchain technology to transform financial services in emerging markets.
