Waterproof Amazon Kindle Oasis Now Supports Audiobook Playback
Amazon introduces the updated Kindle Oasis, featuring an improved seven-inch display and waterproof design. This latest e-reader boasts a resolution of 1680 x 1264 with 300 PPI, making for crisp and sharp text.
The Kindle Oasis, first launched in 2016, retains its asymmetrical shape from the original model. It does not come with a built-in case but boasts a robust battery life of six weeks, considerably longer than its predecessor.
Notable features of the new Kindle Oasis include 12 LEDs for uniform lighting across the screen, enabling comfortable reading in both dark and bright environments. The device also includes an ambient light sensor, similar to that found in the Kindle Voyage, which adjusts the display brightness according to the user's surroundings.
This marks the first waterproof Kindle ever released, boasting an IPX8 rating. This means users can now read their ebooks without worrying about water damage, even in the bathtub or at the beach.
The Kindle Oasis is also equipped with audiobook functionality, integrating Audible's vast library of audiobooks. Although it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack and a speaker, it does feature Bluetooth connectivity for pairing with wireless headphones or external speakers.
The built-in audiobook player is robust, allowing users to easily skip forward or backward fifteen seconds and adjust the pitch level. Additionally, it displays the remaining time for a chapter and offers a software-driven volume button.
Amazon has introduced several new font sizes, five levels of boldness, and a new accessibility option that lets users invert the color display to read with white text on a black background. These new font settings will be pushed out via a firmware update, starting with the Paperwhite 2.
Priced at $249.99 for the 8GB model and $279.99 for the 32GB model, the updated Kindle Oasis is available for pre-order globally and will start shipping on October 31st. Accessories such as covers with thin designs and automatic wake-up features will also be available.
