Volkswagen's ID.1: Affordable Electric Compact Car Coming Late 2027
Volkswagen's ID.1, a compact electric car, is set to hit the market in late 2027. It promises an appealing design, efficient performance, and a competitive price point.
The ID.1, with a length of 3.88 meters and a width of 1.82 meters, draws inspiration from the original Beetle successor and the first-generation VW Golf. It boasts a modern, recognizable design with dynamic headlights and a friendly rear, thanks to chief designer Andreas Mindt's vision. Under the hood, it features a newly developed front-wheel drive system with a peak power output of 70 kW or 95 PS, and its operating system is provided by US partner Rivian.
The ID.1 is expected to offer a range of at least 250 kilometers, thanks to its LFP battery chemistry and an estimated capacity of around 35 kWh. It's designed to be limited to 130 km/h to optimize range, but this could evolve with advancements in battery technology. Inside, the ID.1 provides a spacious rear compartment with a volume of 305 liters, perfect for everyday use and occasional luggage.
VW aims to position the ID.1 as an affordable electric option, with an entry-level price of around 20,000 euros. It's set to compete with cars like the Renault Twingo and the electric Smart #1, which is expected to launch a year after the ID.1.
The ID.1, with its bold design, efficient performance, and competitive pricing, is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market. It's expected to launch in VW dealerships in late 2027, offering an appealing option for eco-conscious drivers seeking an affordable, stylish, and practical electric car.
