Virbac Launches World's First Medicated Cat Feed, Vikaly
Virbac, a global leader in animal health, has made waves with its latest innovation. The company, founded in 1968 by Jacques Bousquet, has announced the European launch of Vikaly, a groundbreaking medicated feed for cats. This is a significant milestone for the company, which ranks sixth globally with a turnover of €1.397 billion in 2024.
Vikaly is the world's first medicated feed of its kind, combining renal kibble with a veterinary drug subject to marketing authorization. The idea was first conceived over 15 years ago to enhance the quality of life for cats with chronic diseases and simplify life for their owners. The product is entirely designed, developed, and manufactured in France at Virbac's facilities in Carros and Vauvert, using advanced spraying technology to coat each kibble homogeneously with active ingredients.
Vikaly is produced in a factory approved for medicated feed manufacture and distributed following European Regulation 2019/4 requirements. It inaugurates a new regulatory category in Europe and requires a veterinary prescription following a clinical examination. Virbac, with its global workforce of over 6,400 employees, markets products in over 100 countries, demonstrating its commitment to improving the lives of companion animals worldwide.
Virbac's Vikaly is set to revolutionize the care of cats with chronic diseases. By combining renal kibble with a veterinary drug, it offers a new approach to managing these conditions. With its launch, Virbac continues its mission to sustainably evolve care protocols in veterinary medicine, contributing to the well-being of companion animals.
