Unveiling the Major Shifts with iOS 26's Liquid Glass Design: Preview of Features in the Upcoming Public Beta for Your iPhone

Apple is set to release iOS 26, its latest mobile operating system, around mid-September. This update, codenamed Liquid Glass, promises a significant visual and interface evolution that sets it apart from its predecessor, iOS 18.

One of the key features of iOS 26 is its multi-layered interface, which introduces depth, motion, and responsiveness to the user experience. This is evident in the more transparent dock at the bottom of the screen, the translucent home screen icons and widgets, and the stylized pane-of-glass animation on the lock screen.

The lock screen in iOS 26 also displays a more stylish number of notifications, with noticeable translucency on the icons and notifications, accompanied by new white text and a specular highlight effect on shortcut buttons for the torch and camera. The clock on the lock screen also adjusts its size dynamically, adding a touch of sophistication.

The Control Center in iOS 26 remains similar to iOS 18 but incorporates Liquid Glass's transparency, offering a more vibrant and dynamic colour change compared to its predecessor.

In terms of design, iOS 26 introduces a new design language called Liquid Glass, which offers a more transparent iPhone screen. Some of Apple's app icons have changed, with some offering different shading and others being fully redesigned.

The update in iOS 26 is described as a game-changer that transforms the user interface from a flat, functional experience into a more premium, immersive, and interactive environment. The Liquid Glass design adds visual depth and a futuristic feel, improving both aesthetics and responsiveness while refining elements based on user feedback from earlier beta stages of iOS 26.

Dynamic tab bars in apps, designed to change depending on scrolling and specific actions, aim to free up space and be more intuitive. The public beta for iOS 26 is rumoured to be released on July 23, with the first public beta expected to include all the recommendations and fixes from the developer beta.

However, it's worth noting that the transparency of the home screen in the developer beta can affect readability. Nonetheless, the update is expected to significantly differ from previous developer betas, incorporating new transparency options, changes to Safari, and adjustments to apps and widgets.
