Universal Robots Unveils UR8 Long Cobot for Space-Constrained Inspection Cells
Universal Robots (UR) has introduced the UR8 Long, a collaborative robot with an extended reach, at the FABTECH trade show in Chicago. This new cobot is designed to streamline space-constrained home inspection cells and automate previously manual tasks.
The UR8 Long boasts an impressive reach of 1750 mm (68.9 in) and can carry a payload of 8 kg (17.6 lbs). Its extended reach and improved wrist architecture allow for larger work envelopes, reducing the need for frequent repositioning. This cobot can achieve cycle times up to 30% faster than its predecessors, making it ideal for modern quality control strategies.
Running on PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X software platforms, the UR8 Long can be further enhanced with MotionPlus for smoother trajectories and precise positioning. It is compatible with various vision systems, scanning heads, and non-contact sensors, ensuring reliable measurement results. The UR8 Long's upgraded freedrive functionality enables intuitive manual guidance into measurement positions.
The UR8 Long demonstrates the growing role of cobots in enabling smart, flexible home inspection applications. With its extended reach, improved speed, and compatibility with various sensors, it can automate workflows previously requiring manual access, such as multi-point dimensional checks and inline verification. This new cobot from Universal Robots is set to enhance efficiency and accuracy in industrial inspection processes.
