Snap One Introduces the WattBox 820 Series IP Controllable Power Distribution Units

Snap One, a leading provider of smart home and commercial automation solutions, has announced the launch of its new WattBox 820 Series IP controllable power distribution units (PDUs). The 820 Series, which includes the WB-820-IPVM-12 and WB-820CH1U-IPVM-8 models, offers several key features designed for professional AV and IT environments.

Key Features

  1. IP Controllability Both models support remote control and monitoring over IP, allowing integrators and users to power cycle, schedule, or monitor connected devices remotely via a web interface or control systems.
  2. Outlet Control and Monitoring
  3. WB-820-IPVM-12: Offers 12 individually controllable and metered outlets for granular management of each connected device.
  4. WB-820CH1U-IPVM-8: A compact 1U rack-mount design with 8 controllable outlets, suitable for space-constrained rack installations.
  5. Power Monitoring and Metering Built-in current monitoring per outlet (and for the whole unit), enabling power usage tracking and reporting, which helps in energy management and troubleshooting.
  6. Robust Construction Durable metal enclosures and professional-grade hardware ensure reliability in demanding commercial AV and IT installations.
  7. Scheduling and Events Supports firmware-based scheduling allowing outlets to turn on/off at set times, reducing power consumption when equipment is idle.
  8. Integration Ready Compatible with common control systems through standard protocols, often supporting APIs, SNMP, and HTTP commands, to integrate into custom and professional control ecosystems.
  9. Safety Features Overload protection and configurable outlet groups help protect connected equipment from electrical faults.
  10. User Interface Web-based GUI for straightforward setup and management without needing additional software.

Compatibility

  • Control Systems: Designed to integrate smoothly with third-party control platforms commonly used in AV settings, such as Crestron, Control4, AMX, and Snap One’s own ecosystem.
  • Network Environments: Supports standard IP networking protocols (IPv4/IPv6), making them compatible with typical enterprise and residential networks.
  • Rack Installation: Especially the WB-820CH1U-IPVM-8’s 1U form factor fits easily into standard 19-inch racks.
  • Devices: Compatible with any AC-powered AV, IT, or network devices up to the specified power ratings, supporting a wide range of connected equipment.

The 820 Series PDUs retain many features from the original 15-amp 800 Series, including OvrC remote monitoring and resolution, self-healing auto reboot, and control, scheduling, and metering of individual outlets. Additionally, the new series features a next-generation Telnet API, allowing systems integrators to program unique features into the system.

The WB-820-IPVM-12 and WB-820CH1U-IPVM-8 also come with built-in surge protection and power conditioning. These features minimize service calls and safeguard connected components from damaging voltage irregularities. The 820 Series is particularly suitable for commercial and dedicated theater projects, which often have high power requirements.

Snap One’s 820 Series WattBox PDUs are professional-grade, remotely controllable, and energy-monitoring power distribution units tailored for AV and network integrators needing reliable, manageable power solutions with flexible installation options. The 820 Series PDUs can be paired with an optional WattBox Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for back-up power during electrical outages. A 2-outlet version of the 820 Series is also planned for release in the future.

Products like the WB-820-IPVM-12 and WB-820CH1U-IPVM-8 from Snap One's new WattBox 820 Series are designed specifically for AV and IT environments, showcasing top-notch technology. One key feature is IP controllability, allowing remote control, monitoring, and even scheduling of connected devices, enhancing the system's versatility. The latest gadgets in the series, such as gadgets designed for space-constrained installations, offer robust construction for resilience in commercial settings.
