Ukraine Boosts Anti-Drone Capabilities with Thales Rockets
Ukraine is bolstering its anti-drone capabilities with advanced rockets from Thales. The rockets, compatible with NATO launchers and Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters, are already in use and have a range of about 3 kilometers. Demand from Kyiv is high, with requests exceeding current production capacity.
Thales is ramping up production to meet the increasing demand. By 2026, the company aims to produce 10,000 rockets annually. The rockets are equipped with the FZ123 anti-drone warhead, creating a kill zone of about 25 meters in diameter. In addition to Ukrainian orders, Belgium has announced plans to deliver over 5,000 of these rockets to Ukraine. Thales Belgium is set to produce 3,500 rockets by the end of this year.
The UK and Ukraine were also set to sign a long-term defense agreement for the delivery of over 5,000 Thales-made air defense missiles. This further underscores the international support for Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
Thales' anti-drone rockets are proving to be a valuable asset for Ukraine's defense. With increased production and international support, these rockets are expected to significantly enhance Ukraine's ability to counter drone threats.
