Uber Freight and Tesla Partner to Accelerate Electric Truck Adoption

Uber Freight, the logistics company, has announced a strategic partnership with Tesla to promote the adoption of electric trucks. The partnership was revealed during Deliver 2025, Uber Freight's annual summit, by Lior Ron, the company's founder and chairman, who is now the COO of Waabi.

As part of the partnership, Uber Freight has introduced the Dedicated EV Fleet Accelerator Program. This program offers fleets subsidized access to Tesla Semi trucks, aiming to help fleets and shippers adopt electric trucks at scale and with confidence.

Maverick Transportation and J.B. Hunt Transport Services are among the companies that have participated in the program's pilot phase and have purchased Tesla Semi trucks. However, it is possible that other companies were also involved in the pilot phase, as the exact list of participating companies is not always made public. Both Maverick Transportation and J.B. Hunt Transport Services are known as pioneers in the logistics industry for their early interest in electric vehicles.

The Tesla Semi truck offers significant operational savings over time. During a two-month pilot of the EV accelerator program, the Tesla Semi trucks clocked over 394 hours of drive time, covering 12,377 miles. The Semi truck has an estimated range of 300 to 500 miles carrying a full load and is expected to go on sale in 2026.

Steve Barber, vice president of product at Uber Freight, highlighted that the company's continued investment in automation, intelligence, and integration delivers faster decisions, smarter cost control, and more resilient supply chains. Uber Freight's transportation management system (TMS) now integrates order-to-cash tracking, allowing shippers to manage receivables and payables directly within the portal.

In addition, Uber Freight expanded its exchange procurement platform with scenario analysis, enabling shippers to model multiple bid strategies in minutes instead of weeks. These new platform features are aimed at simplifying and connecting logistic workflows, showcasing the reshaping of freight operations through intelligence, automation, and integration.

Rebecca Tinucci, the new CEO of Uber Freight, stated that logistics have become a "priority" in boardrooms due to recent real-world events impacting shipping lanes and bottom lines. The program aims to address high upfront costs, charging infrastructure gaps, and uncertainty around revenue potential that have often discouraged broader adoption of electric trucks.

Uber Freight taps into its extensive freight network to match carriers with consistent freight from its shipper base. Fleets participating in the program will integrate their Tesla Semi trucks into Uber Freight's dedicated solutions for shippers for a pre-determined period. The update to the TMS streamlines workflows, reduces disputes by up to 20%, and accelerates payments to carriers.

Tesla began manufacturing the all-electric Class 8 Semi truck in 2022, with mass production expected to start at the end of 2025. The Tesla Semi trucks averaged net energy consumption of 1.72 kWh per mile on 60 hours of total charge time during the pilot.

The partnership between Uber Freight and Tesla is a significant step towards promoting the adoption of electric trucks and reducing the carbon footprint of the logistics industry. As more companies adopt electric trucks, we can expect to see a decrease in emissions and an improvement in air quality in urban areas.
