U.S. Firm Canoo Makes its Debut in the UK Market with Electric Vehicles Offering
Canoo Launches into the United Kingdom Market
Canoo, an advanced mobility company specialising in electric cargo vehicles, has made its debut in the United Kingdom. The company, headquartered in Justin, Texas, with teams in California, Michigan, and Oklahoma, is set to introduce groundbreaking commercial electric vehicle solutions to the UK.
Canoo's expansion into the UK is a significant milestone in the company's global expansion strategy. The company's new legal entity, Canoo Technologies UK Limited, will be based at Bicester Motion, a former WWII Royal Air Force base that symbolises the long-standing partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom.
The space at Bicester Motion will serve as Canoo's future operations, customer, and activation center. The activation center will provide customers with an opportunity to experience and test drive Canoo's right-hand drive commercial vans. The center is scheduled to open in October.
Canoo's strategy includes pilots followed by the rollout of vehicles, and direct collaboration with customers to create custom solutions. The company will take a customer-centric approach, focusing on meeting the diverse needs of commercial and government fleet customers.
The UK has one of the most ambitious regulatory frameworks for EV adoption. By 2030, 80% of new vehicles and 70% of new vans are expected to be zero-emission, increasing to 100% by 2035. Canoo's vehicles, built on a modular platform with steer-by-wire technology, are designed to maximise interior space for various business and government applications.
Tony, Canoo's leader, has a successful track record in the UK market. He founded Solera and acquired various businesses. Under his leadership, Canoo's operations in the UK have resulted in hundreds of new jobs and over $100 million in annualized revenue.
Daniel Geoghegan, CEO of Bicester Motion, welcomes Canoo to the UK, highlighting the shared vision for the future of mobility. Canoo chose Bicester Motion for its Activation Center due to the location's rich history in automotive innovation and proximity to more than 50 automotive brands.
The small van market in the UK has seen a 42.0% year-to-date growth in 2024, making it an attractive market for Canoo. With its customer-centric approach and innovative electric vehicles, Canoo is poised to make a significant impact in the UK market.
Stefan Krause, the founder of Canoo, was previously the CEO of an automotive software company he founded and sold to Solera. Canoo's expansion into the UK is a testament to Krause's vision for the future of mobility and the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
