French Artist Vincent Carpintero-Pérez Debuts "Living Nature," a Virtual Museum Transforming Still Lifes into 3D Animation

In an innovative exploration of digital art, Vincent Carpintero-Pérez has crafted "Living Nature," a virtual museum that brings still lifes to life. This groundbreaking artwork will be showcased in the Art&VR Gallery's selection for the forthcoming Recto VRso digital art festival, taking place from April 11-14, 2024.

The virtual museum invites users to immerse themselves in a 3D-generated environment through a virtual reality headset. In this exhibition space, several still lifes adorn the walls, creating an interactive experience where users can engage directly with the artwork. By stepping inside a painting, users trigger a new experience, transposing themselves into another realm and time.

Through the use of photogrammetry, each still life was meticulously scanned and converted into 3D models. Carpintero-Pérez specializes in the application of this technology in the realm of art, focusing on still life and its permutations in the digital sphere. With "Living Nature," the static still life is reinvented as a tangible entity within a virtual universe.

With the advent of digital technology, the representation of still life has been dramatically altered. According to Carpintero-Pérez, the display of digital images constitutes an immaterial, timeless image that updates in real-time. The user becomes both spectator and actor, shaping the environment and engaging with the artwork in a personalized manner.

The immersion into the still life offers a unique experience, transporting visitors to another universe and era. This transformed representation of still life underscores the profound impact of digital technology on this centuries-old artistic movement. The interactive, personalized nature of the work offers novel perspectives on classical still life representation.

Carpintero-Pérez asserts that the hybridization of real-time and virtual time is symbolized by the merging of the two-dimensional painting with a 3D universe. This transition encompasses a shift from a confined, static space to an open, dynamic world, reflecting the intertwining of real and virtual temporality within a timeless realm.

"Living Nature" serves as a testament to the evolution of art in the digital age, combining tradition with innovation to create a unique and engaging experience for festival-goers at the 7th edition of the Recto VRso digital art festival in 2024.

Carpintero-Pérez utilizes technology, particularly photogrammetry, to reinvent the static still life as a tangible entity within a virtual universe in his artwork, "Living Nature." By stepping inside a painting, users engage with the artwork in a personalized manner, demonstrating the profound impact digital technology has on the representation of still life.
