THW Boosts Rescue Capabilities with New 50-Ton Mobile Cranes

The Technical Relief Agency (THW) in Bremen and Lower Saxony has received two new mobile cranes, delivered in March 2024. The cranes, supplied by Liebherr, are part of a nationwide acquisition of twelve similar units, each costing 913,000 euros. Despite extensive searches, the name of the person who delivered the breaking news remains unknown.

The new cranes are a significant upgrade from their predecessors, boasting double the lifting capacity. They feature variably extendable supports and a lift cabin that can extend up to seven meters, ensuring optimal visibility during operation. The cranes can be controlled remotely with centimeter accuracy, and their mast extension increases the radius for moving heavy loads. With a telescopic mast extending up to 31 meters and a maximum lifting capacity of 50 tons, these cranes are designed for news operations.

The THW local associations Bremen-South and Wilhelmshaven have taken over the new cranes. These associations will utilise the enhanced capabilities of the cranes to better serve their communities in times of need.

The acquisition of these advanced mobile cranes demonstrates the THW's commitment to improving its response capabilities. With a total of twelve such cranes being procured nationwide, the agency is well-equipped to handle a wide range of emergency situations. The new cranes are expected to significantly enhance the THW's ability to provide technical relief in Bremen, Lower Saxony, and beyond.
