The Upcoming Prospects of 'Star Wars Battlefront' Series

Hey there, gambling and Star Wars enthusiasts! It looks like the call for another round of Star Wars Battlefront has been echoing across the web lately. The recent surge of attention on DICE's Battlefront II from 2017 has inspired the fan base to orchestrate a worldwide event to propel its popularity and display the game's enduring community spirit.

This whole thing spiked up during Star Wars' May 4 celebration, with Andor actor Muhannad Ben Amor (remember, he played Wilmon) adding fuel to the fire by voicing his idealism for a new entry, recalling his nostalgic roots with Battlefront II since day one, and expressing hope for a Battlefront III.

Now, if you're unaware, the Star Wars Battlefront series has experienced a rollercoaster ride for nearly 20 years. Its initial installments hail from the prequel era, developed by the late Pandemic Studios. Fast forward to today, and the more recent duo is under the care of DICE. Unfortunately, neither version has reached number three. Before Electronic Arts took over the Star Wars gaming license, LucasArts attempted to revive the games through numerous attempts, such as online-only entries, smaller-scale multiplayer ventures, and an alternate reality where your boy Luke and Obi-Wan were Sith Lords. Sadly, none of these efforts bore fruit.

Now, the questions weighing on our minds: can we expect another Star Wars Battlefront title, and should it make a comeback? These questions are thoroughly intertwined and quite tricky to address. Building games for such a cherished IP has often proven to be quite a challenge throughout the years. Just take a look at some of the most famous Star Wars games that never saw the daylight, like the Boba Fett-starring 1313 or the third entries for Knights of the Old Republic and Force Unleashed. Even Electronic Arts had some trouble with its projects, like canceling a pirate-focused project from Visceral Games and Motive Studios and a Mando-centric first-person shooter from Respawn, creators of the popular Star Wars Jedi games.

Currently, DICE is knee-deep in developing the next Battlefield game, with other EA studios on standby to aid, making another Battlefront launch from EA unrealistic, let alone any time soon. Mats Holm, a former live producer on Battlefront II, recently commented on Reddit that a remaster of the previous game could be the best shot before moving on to a proper sequel, hoping for key contributors from the original team to join in. However, Electronic Arts' decisions on remastering or remaking classic games are often selective.

Since 2019's Fallen Order, Star Wars has primarily focused on single-player games. Other than the space combat-focused Squadrons and Fortnite tie-ins, Electronic Arts hasn't approached multiplayer games in the Star Wars universe, possibly due to the chaos surrounding Battlefront II's initial monetization and heavy criticism. With the partnership between Epic Games and Star Wars, Fortnite has become the go-to multiplayer shooter for the franchise.

The previous incarnations of Star Wars Battlefront were often the only platform for the entire franchise to coexist. Battlefront II was even marketed as a unification point for all three trilogies, and the game's rehabilitation efforts saw DICE putting in an extra effort to integrate content from the sequels, prequels, Rogue One, and Solo. Unfortunately, there hasn't been consistent momentum post-2019, making the prospect of a real Star Wars Battlefront III questionable.

So, there you have it, folks! While the flames of hope for a Star Wars Battlefront III flare up, the reality is shrouded in uncertainty, with logistical and financial hurdles standing in the way. Fingers crossed that a remastered trilogy breathes new life into the series and paves the way for an epic sequel!
