The Gemini app employs your historical chats for generating tailored, future responses within the realm of 'personal context'.
Google's Gemini App Update Introduces Personalized Chats for Enhanced User Experience
Google has rolled out an update for its Gemini app, introducing a new "personal context" feature aimed at delivering a more personalized user experience. This update is part of Google's ongoing efforts to improve its AI services and respect user privacy.
The "personal context" feature automatically learns from a user's past conversations to remember their preferences, dislikes, and personal details. This means that the AI model can proactively use information from earlier chats to tailor its responses naturally and relevantly over time, making it feel like the AI is collaborating with you while already being "up to speed."
This new feature is a significant departure from the previous "Saved Info" feature, which required users to explicitly ask the AI to recall or reference past conversations. The new "personal context" feature is enabled by default, but users have the option to disable it if they prefer.
One of the key benefits of the updated feature is its ability to remember likes, dislikes, and preferences across various topics without requiring explicit prompts. For example, the AI model might suggest party themes or content ideas based on prior, seemingly unrelated chats.
To further enhance user privacy, the update also includes a new "Temporary Chats" feature. This feature ensures that one-off questions won't be remembered by the AI or appear in the recent chats list. Additionally, things discussed in Temporary Chats won't be used to train the AI model.
The new "Keep Activity" setting will replace the current "Gemini Apps Activity" setting. This setting will allow users to opt-in to have a sample of their future uploads used to improve Google services. Users can also delete their past chats via the Gemini App Activity setting.
The personalized chats feature is rolling out today (Aug 13) and will continue to reach more users "over the coming weeks." The Gemini 2.5 Pro model in select countries was the first to receive the personalized chats feature on August 13.
This update marks the second significant change to the Gemini app, following the introduction of the AI model on WearOS devices in July's "Gemini Drops" update. Google continues to innovate and improve its AI services, striving to deliver a more personalized and privacy-focused user experience.
