The Destination of That Devoted Planet Is Not as Expected

Star Wars' recently introduced villain's mysterious native planet grabs attention, with Leslye Headland providing no clear insights.

The Destination of That Devoted Planet Is Not as Expected

Star Wars fanatics delight in more than just a good mystery: they thrive on guessing how these mysteries could intertwine with the rest of the galaxy, far, far away. Yet, the franchise isn't always plotting connections as much as we'd like.

Take, for instance, the unexplored planet that the Sith Stranger calls home in The Acolyte. Fans have been buzzing that this could be Ahch-To from The Last Jedi. Both share striking similarities with their vast oceans, lush island outcroppings, and (albeit different filming locations), but it seems we've been led astray.

In a recent interview with Collider, showrunner Leslye Headland confirmed our worst fears: it's not Ahch-To. "It's not Ahch-To. I know it's similar," she admitted, "but the idea is that cortosis is mined on this planet." Cortosis, a rare metal, isn't found on Ahch-To and locating this treasure trove of power was likely a major factor in the Sith Stranger's choice of planetary base.

Headland further explained that the planet in The Acolyte was left unnamed in the series for a reason. "It's an uncharted planet that they haven't mapped," she commented, touched upon the fact that the High Republic era, where the series is set, is a time when the Republic and its allies are still expanding territory and charting the galaxy.

Meanwhile, Star Wars fans have been left speculating if the undiscovered world might somehow be a canonical version of Bal'demnic, a cortosis-rich ocean world that served as Darth Plagueis' base of operations in the EU novel, Plagueis. For now, it seems the planet is just one more mystery for the ages.

Speaking of mysteries, keep an eye out for the latest happenings in the Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, DC Universe, and Doctor Who universes. As for The Acolyte, who knows what treasures it might uncover as its first season unfolds? The quest for knowledge is never-ending in this galaxy!
