Tesla introduces Model 3 with an impressive 830km range in China, deliveries to start in September
In a significant move, Tesla has expanded its Model 3 lineup in China with the introduction of a new Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant. Meanwhile, the much-anticipated six-seat Model Y "L" variant is scheduled for its first deliveries in September 2025.
The Model 3 RWD will be available from September, as confirmed by Tesla's online configurator. This new variant is priced at ¥285,500 (C$54,700) in China, making it ¥34,000 (C$6,500) more expensive than the entry-level Model 3. The RWD setup allows the vehicle to reach 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and boasts a top speed of 200 km/h.
Interestingly, the advanced ternary battery chemistry used in the new Model 3 RWD is also found in higher-priced Model 3 trims. This technology contributes to the RWD variant's impressive range, offering an impressive 830 kilometers (516 miles) on the CLTC cycle. While the CLTC figure is notably higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rating, the adjusted EPA-equivalent range is approximately 640 km (397 miles).
The new Model 3 RWD variant features a 78.4 kWh battery pack supplied by LG Energy Solution.
Moving on to the Model Y "L" variant, this six-seat SUV will be available this fall with an extended wheelbase, offering more space for passengers. The starting price in China is RMB 339,000 (approximately $47,180 USD). While the exact electric driving range specific to the Model Y L is not explicitly stated, industry estimates suggest a range of 751 km (467 miles) under the CLTC standard. This variant will be equipped with an 82 kWh battery pack.
The Model Y "L" is poised to compete actively in China’s six-seat SUV market segment and boost Tesla’s sales there. Tesla's Model 3 lineup in China now consists of four variants: the Long Range RWD, Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD), Performance versions, and the new Model 3 RWD.
The Model 3 Performance version, priced at ¥339,500 (C$65,100) in China, completes the lineup. The standard long-range Model Y in China offers around 447 miles (719 km) range as a reference point for the Model Y L's expected range. However, a precise figure for the Model Y L is not currently available.

In the realm of upgraded offerings, the Model Y "L" variant, scheduled for delivery in September 2025, is anticipated to challenge China's six-seat SUV market segment due to its projected range of approximately 751 km (467 miles). This electric vehicle will rival Tesla's Model 3 lineup, which now consists of four variants, including the Model 3 RWD, introduced this year with a range of 830 kilometers (516 miles) on the CLTC cycle. In addition to these electric vehicles, Tesla's tech-savvy consumers may find appeal in the latest gadgets and lifestyle accessories, further enhancing their overall technology-driven lifestyle.
