Introducing the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Cybertruck: Tesla's Affordable and Efficient Offering

Tesla has expanded its Cybertruck lineup with the introduction of the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant. This new configuration offers a unique blend of performance, utility, and affordability, extending the Cybertruck lineup beyond the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Cyberbeast trims.

Key Differences Between RWD and AWD

The key differences between the Long Range RWD and AWD variants lie in their performance, range, drivetrain configuration, and pricing. The RWD uses a single electric motor powering the rear wheels, offering higher efficiency due to less energy use compared to AWD. This results in a higher estimated range of about 350 miles (560 km) for the RWD, compared to 325 miles (523 km) for the AWD model.

The AWD version employs multiple motors powering all four wheels, enhancing traction and acceleration but typically at the cost of some efficiency. The AWD models are more costly, with Base models starting about $81,985, while the RWD is the least expensive model, priced around $71,985.

Features and Capabilities

Both variants come with Tesla's driver aids and optional Full Self-Driving capabilities. The AWD configuration generally provides enhanced handling in adverse conditions, such as off-road or snow. Payload and towing capacities are strong across models, with maximum towing up to 11,000 pounds.

Design and Aesthetics

The Long Range RWD Cybertruck retains the same stainless steel exoskeleton, armored glass, and signature triangular silhouette as other Cybertruck trims. However, it does not feature the same taillights as the AWD and Cyberbeast trims. The RWD Cybertruck comes standard with 18-inch wheels and a redesigned wheel cover. It also has front tinted windows, unlike the AWD and Cyberbeast trims.

Availability and Pricing

The new Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Cybertruck is currently available only in the U.S., with the first deliveries expected in June or July. The RWD Cybertruck is priced at $69,990 before incentives and $62,490 after the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. The variant's debut also ensures Tesla maintains eligibility for government incentives tied to price thresholds and domestic manufacturing requirements.

The RWD Cybertruck retains a six-foot-long bed, 7,500 lbs of towing power, and a 362-mile estimated range when equipped with a soft tonneau cover. Tesla offers the 20′′ Cyber Wheels and Covers package for $3,500.

Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability

Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability can be added for $7,000 for early reservation holders, or $8,000 otherwise. A referral link to buy a Tesla can provide three months of FSD if enjoyed and helpful in the decision-making process.

The new RWD Cybertruck variant is currently available only in the U.S., with the first deliveries expected in June or July, and may expand to Canada soon.

The Tesla Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Cybertruck offers an affordability advantage compared to other Cybertruck configurations, with a base price around $71,985, showcasing the company's focus on cost efficiency in the automotive industry. Additionally, this configuration boasts a higher predicted range of about 350 miles (560 km) due to its single electric rear motor, outperforming the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant in terms of energy consumption and technology advancements.
