Tesla Expands Presence in India with New Supercharger Stations

Tesla, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to open a second experience center in Delhi, India. This announcement follows the success of the company's first Supercharger station in One BKC, Mumbai, which has four V4 supercharging stalls and four destination chargers.

The Supercharger station delivers fast DC charging at a peak speed of 250 kW, making it a popular choice for Tesla owners. The charging cost at these stations is standardised at ₹24 per kWh, which translates to approximately ₹1,800 for a full charge on the Standard variant and over ₹2,000 for the Long Range variant of the Tesla Model Y.

Tesla also offers slower AC Destination Chargers priced at around ₹14 per kWh. These chargers are a more affordable option but take longer to charge the battery.

Tesla's Superchargers boast a 99.95 per cent uptime, ensuring minimal disruptions for users. The company is planning to install Supercharger stations in Aerocity, Noida, and Gurugram, further expanding its network across India.

In addition to these, Tesla plans to open Supercharger stations in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai by September. The payment process for charging on the Tesla Supercharger is available on the Tesla app on your smartphone, and the built-in navigation system guides users to the nearest supercharging station.

The Tesla Model Y also features an automatic preconditioning of the battery before arriving at the supercharging station, ensuring faster charging times. The vehicle can gain up to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes using the Supercharger.

Competition in the Indian electric vehicle market is heating up, with the MG M9 EV 90 kWh variant priced at ₹ 69.90 Lakhs, offering a range of 548 km. The Kia EV6 84 kWh variant is priced at ₹ 65.97 Lakhs, offering a range of 663 km. The Volvo C40 Recharge 78 kWh variant, priced at ₹ 62.95 Lakhs, offers a range of 530 km.

The charging speed for the Tesla Model Y on the Supercharger depends on the battery's current state of charge and temperature. The 11 kW Destination Charger on the Tesla Model Y is priced at ₹14 per kW.

With Tesla's expansion in India and the growing competition in the electric vehicle market, it's an exciting time for electric vehicle enthusiasts in the country.
