Tesla CEO Musk states that a single version of the Model Y is priced affordably
Tesla, the leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is moving forward with its plans to introduce more budget-friendly options. The company has begun initial production of its more affordable models, with volume production scheduled for the second half of 2025. These models are expected to be available to consumers in the fourth quarter of 2025.
According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the new affordable model will resemble a smaller and shorter version of the Model Y. This move is part of Tesla's strategy to compete more effectively in the EV market, where affordability is becoming increasingly important.
The introduction of these affordable models aims to address consumer demand for budget-friendly electric vehicles, potentially expanding Tesla's customer base and enhancing its position in the EV market. Competitors like Ford and Chevrolet have already established themselves with more affordable options, and Tesla's new models will likely target younger consumers and families. Additionally, the push into the affordable segment is partly driven by the need to counter Chinese competition, which is offering EVs at competitive prices.
Elon Musk believes there's a high demand for a more affordable electric vehicle. He stated that the lack of financial means, not lack of interest, is the problem preventing people from buying electric vehicles. Musk has previously hinted at a new, compact electric vehicle priced at $25,000 before taxes.
Despite aiming for stronger growth, Tesla fell short in Q2 2025, experiencing a 16% revenue decrease in its automotive division compared to Q2 2024. However, the revenue decline was less severe than the previous quarter (-20%). Tesla is yet to reveal more about its new entry-level model.
In other news, plans for new vehicles to be launched in 2025 remain on track, including the initial production of a more affordable model in the first half of 2025. However, there were reports suggesting two new series, one each for China and Europe, but Tesla has since distanced itself from these plans.
As Tesla continues to innovate and push the boundaries of EV technology, the introduction of more affordable models is a significant step towards making electric vehicles accessible to a wider audience. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the release of these new models in late 2025.
