Tentech's Laser Technique Boosts 3D Print Quality
Tentech, a leading 3D printing company, has developed a new technique to enhance print quality. The method involves attaching a 1.5-watt diode laser to a 3D printer, aiming to reduce visual artifacts and improve overall finish. Initial tests have shown promising results, with smoother, shinier prints and improved fine geometry detail.
The laser smoothing process, pioneered by Donal Papp, uses non-planar printer movements to maintain ideal laser focus. This technique has been found to smooth layer lines and produce prints with sharper details. However, it has been noted that the process discolors pink filament, while darker filaments remain unaffected.
In a comparison test, two candle molds were printed - one using the laser smoothing technique and the other left unprocessed. The results showed minimal quality difference, with the processed mold showing no signs of wax leakage into the infill, unlike the unprocessed one. This suggests that the laser smoothing process could potentially improve print functionality as well as aesthetics.
Tentech's laser smoothing technique, developed by Donal Papp, offers a promising method for enhancing 3D print quality. While it has been observed to discolor pink filament, the process has shown significant improvements in print smoothness, shine, and fine geometry detail. Furthermore, it has the potential to improve print functionality by preventing infill leakage. Further research is needed to explore the full potential of this technique and its impact on different types of filaments.
