Telegram's Durov Predicts Bitcoin's $1M Future, Despite TON's Regulatory Hurdles

Telegram founder Pavel Durov, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency world, has expressed his views on the value and potential of cryptocurrencies, with a particular focus on Bitcoin and his own project, Telegram Open Network (TON).

Durov appreciates cryptocurrencies as a medium of exchange, with Bitcoin being a model for future money due to its resistance to political pressure and confiscation. He predicts the Bitcoin price will reach $1 million in the long term, despite its volatility. Durov's confidence in Bitcoin remains strong, even after its price fell to $200-300 after his initial purchase in 2013, when he spent around $2 million despite the local maximum price of $700.

When creating TON, Durov recognised the scalability limitations of Bitcoin and Ethereum, leading to the development of Shardchains for built-in scalability. However, TON's official launch was hindered by US regulatory restrictions. Toncoin, TON's native network token, has shown price fluctuations. In late 2024 and early 2025, it ranges around $2.83 to $3.39, with an all-time high of $8.23 reached in June 2024, before falling by over 67% to $2.68 at the time of this article.

Durov's cryptocurrency wealth, primarily from Bitcoin, enables him to maintain a high standard of living, including renting expensive apartments and flying business jets. Despite Telegram remaining unprofitable, Durov's confidence in cryptocurrencies and their potential continues to shape his views on the future of money.
