Tata Motors sets sights on a 30% electric vehicle (EV) market share by 2030, as they already command 15% of their passenger vehicle sales from EVs in the recent fiscal year.
In an effort to solidify its position in India's rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market, Tata Motors has announced a series of new EV launches over the next year. The company, known for its history of innovation and leadership in the automotive industry, is aiming to increase EV penetration to 30% before 2030.
The upcoming EV launches include the Harrier.ev, already starting deliveries in July 2025, and the Sierra EV, Safari EV, and an electric version of the Altroz, which are expected to hit the market in the coming months. Tata Motors is also introducing a new electric sub-brand called Tata Avinya, with models expected around mid-2026.
The Harrier.ev, a flagship electric SUV, will offer dual-motor all-wheel and single-motor rear-wheel drive options. The Sierra EV is expected to launch in August 2026, priced around Rs. 25 lakh, while the Safari EV, priced at approximately Rs. 32 lakh, is set to hit the market in May 2026. The Tata Avinya sub-brand model is expected to be priced close to Rs. 40 lakh.
Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, stated that the company's new launches this year aim to address customer concerns about EVs. In reference to the Harrier.ev launch, Chandra mentioned that the company is not just introducing a new electric SUV, but rewriting the rules of what's possible.
In the last financial year, EVs accounted for 15 percent of Tata Motors' passenger vehicle sales. Despite a decrease in market share, Tata Motors remains the undisputed leader in the EV market in India. The company's market share declined from 70 percent in FY2024 to 53 percent in FY2024-25.
Shrabona Ghosh, a contributor for India's international franchise Media, wrote this article. Despite the challenges faced by the auto industry due to macroeconomic factors, Tata Motors is making significant strides towards a more sustainable future. The company's FY26, according to Chandra, is about a quantum leap, not incremental gains.
