In the heart of Sydney, the annual open-air production of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour (HOSH) captivates audiences with its stunning waterfront setting and unparalleled performances. This year, the event's technical success was underpinned by Riedel Communications, who provided integrated, networked communications and technology solutions that mastered the complex logistical and environmental challenges of the production.

Since 2021, Riedel has been a critical partner to HOSH, streamlining connectivity throughout the challenging outdoor environment. For the 2025 production of "Guys & Dolls", Riedel deployed a fully networked Artist system, a decentralized and scalable digital intercom network, ensuring clear and reliable communications for the large cast and crew.

The Artist system supported around 100 personal communication devices during performances, including Bolero wireless beltpacks for stage crew and wired digital PunQtum beltpacks for follow-spot operators. Two-way radios for security and house staff were also part of the comprehensive communications infrastructure, which spanned the pop-up amphitheater and floating stage setup against the Sydney Harbour backdrop.

Riedel's unified network design enabled all teams to share fiber infrastructure and connection points, significantly improving efficiency. The system proved resilient amid interference challenges common in RF-dense areas like Sydney Harbor. A trunked radio system and exclusive RF licensing were deployed to reduce interference and ensure smooth operation.

The CCTV system, part of the overall site network managed by Riedel, played a crucial role in ensuring safety. Pablo Puig, production manager for Opera Australia, reported that Riedel provided a more reliable CCTV system, essential for locating emergencies and guiding staff. The number of operational CCTV cameras at the end of the season increased with Riedel's involvement.

Heavily armored fiber lines connected the floating stage to shore via a service tunnel, protecting against harsh marine conditions. The tunnel, designed to protect against razor-sharp oyster shells, barnacles, pooling water, and salt-laden mist, ensured a reliable connection between stages.

Riedel Communications played a critical role in powering HOSH's annual open-air production of "Guys & Dolls". The Riedel design enabled the creativity, precision, and magic audiences have come to expect at HOSH. The partnership between Riedel, Opera Australia, and HOSH represents their commitment to technical innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
