Steelbird Hi-Tech targets a daily helmet production of 60,000 units, aiming to establish the largest integrated helmet infrastructure
Steelbird, a leading Indian helmet manufacturer, is on a mission to redefine the industry, focusing not just on numbers, but on values. The company is committed to setting new standards for helmet safety and quality in the country.
With a completed capex of ₹54 crore last year and an additional ₹50 crore investment planned for FY25, Steelbird is expanding its capacity to produce over 60,000-70,000 helmets daily. This growth is supported by a new facility adding two lakh sq. ft. to its existing nine manufacturing plants across Baddi and Noida, which collectively cover over one million sq. ft. of built-up area.
The company's approach to manufacturing and product development is centered on full in-house production and strict quality control. Steelbird manufactures all critical components, such as shells, visors, chinstraps, and decals, within its own facilities, rejecting any outsourcing to avoid inconsistency in its life-saving products.
To improve helmet safety and quality, Steelbird is investing heavily in advanced materials and technologies. It is establishing India’s first in-house carbon fiber and fiberglass weaving facility to manufacture lightweight, high-strength materials with full traceability. This facility supports innovation in hybrid structures that provide better impact protection at lower weights, enabling the production of advanced ultra-light helmets for both domestic and international markets.
Steelbird’s product development strategy involves launching multiple new models annually, with significant investments to keep pace with demand for high-safety helmets that also incorporate smart technologies and premium designs. The company plans to launch 15 new helmet models each year for the next five years.
The company’s zero-compromise safety policy, supported by a vertically integrated manufacturing setup, underpins its goal to maintain stringent quality standards and life-saving performance. Managing Director Rajeev Kapur emphasizes product trust and industrial self-reliance, rejecting any deviation from internal safety standards.
In the fight against counterfeit helmets, Steelbird estimates that 60% of helmets sold in India are fake or non-compliant. To combat this issue, Steelbird has submitted a white paper titled "Mission Save Life 2.0" to the Ministry of Road Transport and other government bodies, calling for UN-aligned safety standards, third-party labs, and real-time certification audits.
Steelbird already exports to 50+ countries and serves OEMs such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Royal Enfield. With localisation efforts growing and a ₹1,300 crore revenue target for FY26-27, Steelbird is positioning itself as a credible global supplier, not just a domestic leader.
The company’s efforts are not a valuation play, but a commitment to building something that lasts because lives depend on it. Steelbird expects CSR related revenue to cross ₹100 crore income by FY26 due to helmet inclusion in road safety programs increasing with corporate and insurance support.
In the future, Steelbird is preparing to launch India's first in-house carbon fibre and fibreglass weaving facility for building lightweight, high-strength helmets for performance and export markets. The company also plans to ramp up its online sales to ₹500 crore in five years with the addition of over 300 exclusive outlets and a network of over 1 lakh retail points of sales.
Steelbird is also developing a new AI-based helmet design platform that allows users to personalise helmets for both style and fit. This innovative approach further solidifies Steelbird's position as a leader in transforming helmet safety and manufacturing self-reliance in India.
