State leadership provides a two-month deadline for government entities to devise AI-related proposals.
In a recent meeting held at Akorda, the President of Kazakhstan underscored the significance of creating an attractive investment and talent ecosystem for artificial intelligence (AI) development. This strategic focus on AI is linked to the country's future, as the President aims to make Kazakhstan a digital hub of Eurasia.
To achieve this goal, the government is developing several key measures. One of these is the support package for domestic AI startups, which includes the relaunch of the “digital ambassadors” initiative. This programme aims to promote Kazakhstan’s digital innovations abroad and help local startups access international markets.
The government also places emphasis on providing opportunities and removing barriers for young innovators. This includes opening new institutions and research centers that facilitate rapid AI initiative development.
A digital transformation group, or "digital headquarters", chaired by the Prime Minister and including key government leaders, has been established. This group focuses on accelerating AI integration across the economy, supporting domestic IT startups, and advancing infrastructure such as the QazTech platform and Smart City projects.
A national AI development and digital transformation program is being formulated, involving international expertise to provide pragmatic, actionable steps. This strategy targets broad AI integration in public administration, healthcare, and the economy, alongside updating legal and regulatory frameworks.
Part of the strategy includes large-scale training and skill-building programs to adapt the labor market and raise AI literacy levels among students and teachers. The President is also implementing the AI-Sana training program to enhance students' AI skills.
The government is also focusing on strengthening international digital partnerships to establish Kazakhstan as a digital hub in Eurasia, fostering knowledge exchange and innovation.
The President believes it's crucial to establish structures and research centers to facilitate the swift implementation of new AI initiatives. Key decisions and proposals related to AI should be prepared and presented to the President within two months.
The President plans to personally supervise the development of artificial intelligence and has tasked the government with developing a package of measures to support domestic AI startups. These initiatives are under direct presidential oversight and are focused on building a solid AI ecosystem by 2025–2026.
The President also highlighted the importance of proper AI use by the younger generation and believes it's crucial to boost AI knowledge levels among teachers and students. The President's remarks were reported by Liter.kz.
