SpaceX given approval to provide Starlink satellite internet service in Pakistan

The license comes with strict security and regulatory conditions, including the establishment of earth station gateways within India, with all satellite traffic to and from Indian users being routed domestically. The company is prohibited from copying, decrypting, or routing Indian user data through any system or gateway outside India. Indian user traffic cannot be mirrored or sent to overseas servers or systems. These conditions are in place to ensure data sovereignty, national security, and user privacy and are mandatory for all satellite communication firms operating in India.
Starlink plans to focus on providing service first to remote and underserved regions in India, which aligns with India's push to extend broadband connectivity in rural and difficult-to-reach areas.
While Starlink's expansion into Pakistan is imminent, its operations in India are still pending the formal allocation of satellite spectrum by the regulator. The ongoing ban on a Musk-owned company in Pakistan is a separate issue.
