SpaceX Aims for 15,000 Next-Gen Starlink Satellites After Record Launch
SpaceX has applied for FCC approval to deploy up to 15,000 next-generation Starlink Direct to Cell satellites. This ambitious plan comes as SpaceX continues to expand its Starlink network, which has recently surpassed seven million users across 150 countries and territories.
On September 25, 2023, SpaceX launched 28 Starlink satellites into orbit, marking its 16th orbital launch this month and tying its record for most launches in a single month. All 28 satellites were successfully deployed, further bolstering the Starlink constellation.
The first stage booster used in this mission, B1063, has flown an impressive 28 missions. This includes notable launches like NASA's DART and Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich. After the recent launch, the booster successfully landed on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You, the vessel's 154th recovery and SpaceX's 513th overall booster landing.
SpaceX has completed 124 Falcon 9 launches so far in 2023, demonstrating the company's prolific launch cadence. This latest launch also marked SpaceX's 300th Starlink mission, a significant milestone in the company's history.
With FCC approval, SpaceX aims to deploy up to 15,000 next-generation Starlink Direct to Cell satellites, further enhancing global connectivity.
