Get ready, Space Marines! The iconic third-person shooter, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, is blasting its way back to modern gaming platforms, thanks to a thoughtful overhaul by port developer SneakyBox. Production lead Vaidas Mikelskas describes this updated version as a "creative conversation between past and present," promising a harmonious blend of the original game's charm with contemporary polish.
The "Master Crafted Edition" boasts a slew of enhancements, such as updated graphics, a fresh UI, and a redesigned control scheme, ensuring smooth performance on today's systems. But that's not all! The new Space Marine also delivers a visual overhaul of the Orks to align them more closely with the franchise's current canon, along with over 100 new voice lines to bring our favorite characters to life anew.
Initially, the game was developed by Relic Entertainment, launching in 2011 to mostly positive responses. Sadly, its planned sequels met an untimely demise when THQ, the game's original publisher, shut down. Fast forward to 2013, when Sega swooped in, acquiring Relic and re-releasing the original Space Marine on PC. Last year, Saber Interactive announced they'd develop the game's sequel for Focus Entertainment, which released to critical acclaim in 2024. Now, the rights for the first Space Marine remain with Sega, and although they've yet to confirm a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition, you'll be able to get your hands on it starting June 10, 2025, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, or via Xbox Game Pass.
