Recently, a filing by Sony, spotted by thewalkmanblog, hints at the impending arrival of the Sony WF-1000XM6 - the anticipated successor to the Award-winning WF-1000XM5 earbuds.
The import filing for the XM6 has been identified under the name 'YY2985'. Don't sweat the codename; remember, the sequel to the WF-C700N used the moniker 'YY2986' before its official debut as the WF-C710N.
The details are thin on the ground at the moment, with the filings merely describing the new earbuds as "headphones without a frame" and revealing that they were imported into Vietnam for testing in a black finish. But hey, it's a start!
While the info is limited, it does suggest that Sony is making progress in the development of its latest flagship earbuds.
As for the release date, a 2025 drop seems plausible given that Sony is already in the testing phase of development. If we look at Sony's release schedule, they usually refresh their flagship earbud line every two to three years. The WF-1000XM5 and the WF-1000XM4 were released in August 2023 and August 2020, respectively, so a mid-summer unveiling could be on the cards.
