Smartphones to gain access to a novel functionality: soon a reality.
Spice up Your Calls with Real-Time Text (RTT) 🤳🔥
Hailed as a game changer in the world of calls, Real-Time Text (RTT) is set to make its grand debut in Germany, as of June 2025. This groundbreaking feature transforms phone conversations into a dynamic, interactive experience like never before. Let's dive into the juicy details of this exciting innovation!
So, what's this RTT all about? 💭💬
RTT, short for Real-Time Text, is in essence live text messaging! It allows users to type and receive messages instantly, without any delay, during an active call. Each letter appears on the receiver's screen, in real time, as you tap away. Say goodbye to the frustration of playing text games with your voice!
Unlike SMS or chat services, the text messages are not delayed, but transmitted in real-time, making it possible to communicate in writing via the mobile network, even in situations where speaking is difficult or impossible. Believe it or not, RTT works its magic without requiring a separate app or an internet connection!
What's the catch? 🤔🔑
For RTT to work its charm, there are a few technical requirements to consider:
- Both parties involved in the conversation should be armed with an RTT-friendly smartphone.
- The devices need to be connected to a 4G or 5G network, or utilize WLAN calling.
- RTT must be activated in the settings (we'll show you how!).
- This magic happens only during an active call, not as a standalone chat service.
Fear not! RTT is compatible with all four major German network providers: Telekom, Vodafone, Telefónica, and 1&1. And the best part? There are no extra costs for this snazzy service!
But, how do I enable RTT on my smartphone?
- To utilize Real-Time Text (RTT) during calls, ensure your smartphone supports this feature and is connected to a 4G or 5G network, or uses WLAN calling.
- After confirming the necessary prerequisites, navigate to your smartphone's settings to activate RTT for a seamless texting experience while on a call.
