SMA Solar to Build New U.S. Inverter Factory by 2025, Creating 200 Jobs
SMA Solar Technology AG has announced plans to establish a new inverter factory in the United States. The exact location remains undisclosed, but the project is expected to be operational by 2025 with an annual capacity of 3.5 GW. The expansion is driven by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and aims to bolster SMA's presence in the U.S. stock market.
SMA is currently evaluating multiple sites and potential partners for the new factory. The production equipment for this facility will be sourced from SMA's existing site in Thalheim, Germany. In parallel, SMA is also boosting its capacity in Germany, targeting 40 GW by 2025 to cater to large PV projects and storage systems.
The new U.S. factory is set to create up to 200 jobs in its initial three years of operation. CEO Jürgen Reinert has stated that this expansion is a strategic move to fortify SMA's market share in the U.S. stock market and secure future growth.
SMA Solar Technology AG's new inverter factory in the U.S. is expected to commence operations in 2025, bringing significant job opportunities and reinforcing SMA's position in the American stock market. The IRA has been a key driver for this expansion, which aligns with SMA's broader plans to increase its production capacity in Germany.
