Siberia Sees Surge in EV Imports, 40% of Personal Vehicles in 2025
The Siberian Federal District has witnessed a surge in electric vehicle (EV) imports, with over 1,500 units brought in by private individuals in the first eight months of 2025. This marks a 15% increase from the same period last year, indicating a growing interest in eco-friendly vehicles in the region.
The average age of these imported EVs does not exceed three years, suggesting a preference for newer models. Over 50% of these vehicles hail from China, with Tesla, BYD, and Nissan being the top brands, accounting for the majority of imports. These models are favoured for their long battery range, advanced autonomous driving features, and robust cold-weather performance, making them well-suited to the Siberian climate.
This trend has led to EVs making up over 40% of all vehicles imported into the region for personal use in the first eight months of 2025.
The increasing demand for electric vehicles in the Siberian Federal District, driven by a preference for newer models and specific features, is a significant shift in the region's automotive market. This growth in EV imports, coupled with the high percentage of EVs among total personal imports, signals a promising future for electric vehicles in the area.
