SI Imaging Services Lands Major Global Space Deal with European Customer
SI Imaging Services has signed a significant contract, marking a major step for the company in the global space industry trend. The South Korean company, a leading provider of satellite imagery services in Asia, has leased the capacity of its high-resolution Earth-observation satellite SpaceEye-T to a European customer. The value of the contract, described as a 'double-digit million euro contract', was not disclosed.
SpaceEye-T, launched in March 2023 on a SpaceX Transporter-13 rideshare mission, offers optical imagery with a native resolution of 25 centimeters per pixel. The Satellite-as-a-Service model, demonstrated in this lease, is gaining popularity in the industry. SI Imaging Services CEO Moongyu Kim highlighted the advantages of this model in data accessibility and security, with global demand rising rapidly.
As of late 2023, there is no publicly known information about which European customer has signed a long-term lease for SpaceEye-T. Typical customers for such contracts include European space agencies, government bodies, and companies in sectors like geodata, mapping, or agriculture. Despite the lack of official announcements, industry events and networks may provide insights. Direct inquiries to SI Imaging Services or potential customers could also yield information.
While the identity of the European customer remains unknown, the contract signals SI Imaging Services' growing influence in the global space industry. The company's high-resolution satellite imagery services continue to attract international interest. As the Satellite-as-a-Service model gains traction, more such contracts are expected in the future.
