Shonen anime's upcoming major release to debut on Crunchyroll in July

"Alright, let's get this show on the road," Crunchyroll recently declared, announcing its exclusive streaming rights for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of the manga series, Gachiakuta. The anime is set to premiere on their platform in July.

Gachiakuta, penned by Kei Urana and illustrated by Hideyoshi Andou in collaboration with graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou, is a thrilling blend of dystopian action and fantasy. Originally published in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2022, this gripping story revolves around Rudo, an ostracized city dweller who subsists on the rich's discards. Following a false accusation for murder, he's tossed off a lavish, floating city into a yawning abyss known as The Pitt. His quest? To returned to that floater and wreak vengeance on the people who threw him away. But standing between him and his goal is The Pitt's savage raiders and monstrous kaiju.

In the world of Gachiakuta, the power levels of devils mirror humanity's fear of the ideas they symbolize, such as guns and blood. Rudo can transform objects of sentimental value into potent weapons, weapons he hopes will help him conquer The Pitt and carry out his revenge.

With such audacious confidence, Crunchyroll has positioned Gachiakuta as the next big shonen series. But hey, considering the all-star team behind the project, it's tough not to be convinced. The production of Gachiakuta falls to My Hero Academia's studio Bones, steered by debutant director Fumihiko Suganuma (who's previously worked as chief episode director and storyboard artist on Train to The End of the World). The anime's screenwriter, Hiroshi Seko, boasts an impressive resume which includes Dan Dan Dan, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan Final Season, and Mob Psycho 100. Satoshi Ishino, of Date A Live and Tokyo Mew Mew New fame, will handle the series' character design and animation direction. The anime's composer will be Taku Iwasaki, renowned for his work on programs like Bungo Stray Dogs and Shin Kamen Rider.

According to Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll, "Gachiakuta presents a one-of-a-kind shonen anime experience, seamlessly blending intense action with a unique visual style. We're delighted to partner with Kodansha and Bones Film to bring this enthralling new tale to audiences worldwide, exclusively on Crunchyroll."

"Gachiakuta stirs a burning desire within me when I script its episodes. It makes me want to blast my tunes, go for a hoot, and catch up with my peers for a hearty feast," Seko commented. "An anime that elicits such emotions is the best - sincerely from the depths of my heart."

"I can't get enough of the spark Gachiakuta ignites within me! I'm eager to see the reactions from fans as they watch the animated Gachiakuta," Andou expressed.

"May Gachiakuta embed itself in your consciousness! Excited to watch the anime together with all of you!" Urana added.

The shonen anime scene seems to be navigating rocky waters, with flagship shows like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia nearing their conclusions, leaving a massive void to fill. Let's hope the team behind iconic series, such as My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, delivers an anime adaptation that won't just meet the hype but surpass it.
