Salesforce Boosts Slack AI Integration with New Developer Tools

Salesforce is expanding its AI integration for Slack with two new developer tools: Real-Time Search API (RTS API) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. These tools aim to make Slack the central point of contact for companies, integrating various software uses and enhancing AI functionality.

The RTS API provides secure, context-based access to current news, files, and channel histories in Slack while maintaining existing permissions. It enables developers to build generic AI agents without specific application integrations. Meanwhile, the MCP server translates between large language models (LLMs) and Slack data sources, facilitating the creation of AI agents.

Slack is introducing Work Objects to standardize external data like images, text, and tables for integration into the chat, further boosting AI functionality. These objects will be available to all developers by the end of October.

Third-party providers like Anthropic, Google, Dropbox, Perplexity, and Notion AI are already integrating their tools with Slack for enhanced AI capabilities. Salesforce's Agentic Developer Tools support developers in building Slack applications, AI agents, and workflows efficiently and securely.

The RTS API and MCP server are currently in a closed beta program, with general access for end customers starting in early 2026. Salesforce emphasizes its robust security architecture, including granular access rights, audit functions, and GDPR-compliant data storage, for the new AI integrations.

With the launch of the RTS API and MCP server, Salesforce is strengthening Slack's position as a central hub for company communications and AI functionality. The new tools, along with Work Objects and enhanced security measures, aim to provide a seamless and secure experience for developers and end-users alike.
