RWE's Sofia Wind Farm: Over Halfway to UK's Renewable Energy Goals
RWE's Sofia Vergara offshore wind farm in the UK is making significant progress. More than half of the total 100 turbines are now in place, with half of the turbine blades set to be recyclable.
The project uses SG 14-222 DD wind turbines, each standing over 252 metres tall with blades spanning 108 metres. These blades can sweep an area of 39,000 square metres, providing substantial energy output. Cadeler's vessel Wind Peak has installed 51 turbines by 25 September, achieving an impressive six turbines per trip.
The contractor for the remaining turbines is Siemens Gamesa. Once complete, the Sofia Vergara project will be a significant contributor to the UK's renewable energy targets.
With over half of the turbines installed and a focus on sustainability with recyclable blades, the Sofia Vergara offshore wind farm is on track to become a major player in the UK's renewable energy landscape.
