Revitalized through Hydrogen: Toyota's Innovative Sauna Creation?
In the heart of Finland, a country renowned for its sauna culture, the city of Jyväskylä is making strides in environmental efforts, emerging as a hydrogen town. The city's latest innovation is the hydrogen sauna, co-developed by Toyota and Harvia, a major sauna manufacturer in Finland.
This unique sauna offers a gentler experience on the throat compared to traditional electric saunas. The higher humidity and rapid rises in body temperature, resulting from the hydrogen sauna's steam production during combustion, contribute to this gentler nature. This aspect is particularly appreciated by individuals, such as Yuta Tomikawa, who place a high value on throat health.
The hydrogen sauna project was a collaborative effort between Toyota's Chief Technology Officer, Hiroki Nakajima, and Harvia's Chief Technology Officer, Timo Harvia. The concept model was finalised by their technicians in a six-month development period.
Mayor Timo Koivisto of Jyväskylä praised the hydrogen sauna project, calling it a great achievement with potential for the future. He also noted that the city's initiatives are "moving forward at high speed." Jyväskylä is already home to fuel cell buses, a hydrogen station, and a museum dedicated to hydrogen education, furthering its commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
The people of Finland have had the opportunity to experience the hydrogen sauna and have expressed their satisfaction. The sauna, which was featured in the August 25 episode, is now available for public use.
The video discussing the hydrogen sauna project was a record-breaker, being the sweatiest Toyota Times in history. As Finland continues to advance in environmental efforts, the hydrogen sauna is a testament to the country's innovative approach to maintaining its traditional sauna culture while reducing carbon emissions.
