Allianz Life Insurance Recovers from Mid-July Hacker Attack
Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America has announced that it has successfully recovered from a hacker attack that occurred on July 16, 2025. The breach involved unauthorized access to a third-party, cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) system, gained through a social engineering technique.
The attack affected the digital interfaces of the company, causing issues with online services for both brokers and end customers. However, the company's website now offers full functionality to both parties, and the extranet for processing business cases for brokers is now functioning again.
The hacker attack resulted in the compromise of a wide range of personally identifiable information (PII) and sensitive financial details related to approximately 1.4 million customers, financial professionals, and select employees. The leaked data included names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account and banking information, protected health information, and employment-related details for employees. The data was reportedly stored in a single, unencrypted database, worsening the privacy impact.
Allianz Life took immediate steps to contain the breach once it was discovered on July 17, 2025. The company notified the FBI and relevant authorities, informed affected individuals about the breach, and offered 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to those impacted. The company also confirmed the breach and cooperated with investigations.
Despite these actions, Allianz has faced legal scrutiny and multiple class action lawsuits citing negligence in protecting sensitive information and reliance on vulnerable third-party systems.
The company's homepage now states that all services are now operational, and the confirmation email for subscription activation has been sent. Allianz Life is now back at its usual service, and customers can rest assured that their digital interfaces are secure and functioning properly.
