Google Pixel Battery Drain Issues After May Update

Users of Google's Pixel phones are experiencing significant battery life depletion following the May security patch, according to reports on the Pixel Phone subreddit. Many users mentioned that their devices, including the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 9a, and even the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, are barely managing three to four hours on a single charge, which appears to be an abnormal battery performance for these devices.

The May update, which was primarily a security patch, does not appear to be the root cause of the battery issues, as it did not include any battery-related fixes. However, some users have reported instances where their battery life improved following the update, which makes the cause of the problem unclear.

Reports of battery drain are not the first time Pixel users have faced issues after a software update. In March, users experienced brightness fluctuations, audio problems, and vibration issues following a different update, which were eventually fixed in the April update.

Google may need to address this issue to prevent further inconvenience for its users. In the meantime, users can try uninstalling problematic apps such as Instagram, checking for other power-guzzling apps, optimizing their device settings, and awaiting an official fix from Google.

  1. The battery problems on several Google Pixel models, like the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 9a, and even the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, could potentially affect the usage of their smartphones and other gadgets, given the reduced battery life on a single charge.
  2. Some users have tried solving the battery issues on their Pixel devices by uninstalling apps such as Instagram, dealing with power-hungry apps, optimizing their device settings, and waiting for an official update from Google, all common troubleshooting steps applicable to various tech gadgets, including smartphones.
