Renault Confirms Data Breach Affecting UK Customers
French car giant Renault has confirmed a data breach affecting UK customers. The incident occurred when a third-party data processing company used by Renault Group UK was targeted by hackers. Although Renault's own systems were not compromised, personal data of some customers has been accessed.
The stolen information includes names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers, vehicle identification numbers, and vehicle registration details. Renault has not disclosed the number of affected customers and is currently in the process of contacting them to advise caution against unsolicited requests for personal information.
Meanwhile, rival Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) continues to recover from a cyber attack that led to a month-long production shutdown. The estimated cost of this disruption is around £120 million, leaving suppliers in limbo. In response, the UK government has announced a £1.5 billion loan guarantee to support JLR's suppliers.
Renault has assured that no financial data or password data was compromised in the attack. The company is working with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and has implemented additional security measures to prevent further breaches. Renault Group UK customers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the company.
