Mad Professor's Simble MKII: A Fresh Spin on Classic Overdrive

The all-new Simble MKII overdrive pedal from Mad Professor is causing a stir in the music community, promising an improved sound with the signature transparent tones that first made it a hit.

Modeled after iconic Dumble amplifiers, the Simble MKII isn't marketed as a direct clone. After all, even the best Dumble copy can't quite mimic the original—that's why folks are willing to shell out six figures for a Dumble amplifier designed by the late Alexander "Howard" Dumble, who passed away in 2022.

But that doesn't mean the Simble MKII falls short. With its interactive controls for Level, Contour, Attack, and Sensitivity, the pedal offers plenty of ways to customize your electric guitar sound with expanded dynamics and drive, all while retaining its unique character.

To make your sound shine, forget about the Simble MKII outshining your amp. Instead, think of it as the cherry on top, enhancing your existing gear. Whether you dial it in as a boost or use its extra dBs to hit the front end of your amp, this pedal caters to all guitar types—singles, humbuckers, P-90s, you name it.

The Attack dial molds the pedal's tonal response, while the Contour dial, neutral at 12 o'clock, lets you brighten or darken your output to taste. The Sensitivity knob is crucial: it increases overdrive and compression while maintaining string clarity, especially at max drive settings.

Some players might have found the original Contour dial a bit muddy, but the designers at Mad Professor have given it a fresh makeover. The pedal's enclosure also gets a revamp, trading the faux wood panelling for a snazzy deep red with cream text and black dials.

At just €199, the Simble MKII appeals to those intrigued by Dumble-style tones without breaking the bank. It runs on 9V DC, drawing 10mA from a pedalboard power supply, and is available now. Ready to add some Holy Grail sound to your pedalboard? Check out Mad Professor for more details.

Note: The Simble MKII isn't a direct Dumble copy, but captures the essence and flexibility of Dumble amplifiers in a compact, affordable package.
