Rearview Mirror Electronic Adjustment (RAD) tuner, a design feature of Rivian's performance models, may expand to incorporate other model ranges.

Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to introduce a new feature called the RAD Tuner for customising drive modes in its electric vehicles. Initially, the RAD Tuner will be available as a free over-the-air (OTA) software update for the R1T and R1S Quad motor models in September this year [1][2][3].

This innovative tool allows drivers to create or adjust drive modes by adjusting 10 different performance parameters, acting like an "equalizer" for the EV's powertrain. Rivian's Chief Software Officer, Wassym Bensaid, has indicated that the RAD Tuner may be offered to other "performance models," not just the Quad motor versions [1].

Currently, Rivian offers four powertrains: Dual Standard, Dual, Tri, and Quad. The tri-motor variant of the Rivian R2 is predicted to do 0-60 mph in under three seconds. Internally, Rivian classifies the Dual Performance, Tri motor, and Quad motor setups as performance models, offering advanced drive modes like Rally, Sport, and Soft Sand, unlike the Dual Standard models [1].

However, Bensaid did not provide a specific timeline for this broader release, nor confirm if it would be free or come at a cost. The inclusion of the RAD Tuner outside of the highest tier models could be considered an upgrade, possibly available via software, but no details on pricing have been announced so far [1].

In summary, while the RAD Tuner is currently exclusive to the Quad motor models and free to those owners, Rivian is exploring offering it to other performance trims. However, it will likely remain limited to models with advanced drive modes and performance upgrades. Pricing for such upgrades, if any, has not been publicly revealed [1].
