Ranking: Top Fast Charging Providers of 2025
In a recent operator check evaluating fast-charging providers in Germany, EnBW Mobility+ secured the overall victory with an impressive 78 points. The assessment, based on network size, charging price, and user comfort, covered nearly two-thirds of the German fast-charging network with a total of 26,500 charging points.
EnBW operates the largest fast-charging network in Germany, with 6,500 charging points at around 1,290 locations. The company's impressive network size, coupled with competitive pricing and large network access, has made it a major player in the German charging station market. Specific low ad-hoc pricing schemes are reported around 35 to 48 cents per kWh, with some monthly tariffs starting at about €4.99.
EWE Go, in cooperation with HOCHTIEF, also made a strong impression with its fast-charging stations. The company offered the most affordable charging price in the test (0.52 Euro/kWh) and also provided the best additional services for drivers. EWE Go belongs to the four providers that received a 'good' rating in the overall result.
Fastned from the Netherlands was recognised for its user comfort, while Citywatt won the test victory in the category of lowest waiting time risk. Aral Pulse and Shell Recharge, both subsidiaries of large fuel station chains, shared fourth place in the overall ranking with 69 points each, narrowly missing a 'good' rating.
Tesla operates the second-largest network in Germany with 3,490 'Supercharger' charging points. The company won the test in the category of ad-hoc charging for Tesla drivers. Ionity was the test winner for ultra-fast charging with up to 400 kW power, which remained stable even with multiple occupancy.
Two innovative newcomers, Jet and Eviny, offered the most affordable ad-hoc charging price per card at 0.49 Euro/kWh. The Mercedes-Benz Charging Network was recognised for the possibility of reserving charging points for 15 minutes.
Electra stood out with its focus on urban locations and traffic hubs, while Pfalzwerke was awarded the most reliable fast-charging provider, with only 2.8% of CCS charging processes failing in the first four minutes - the best result in the test, rated as very good with 100 points.
Innovative city-level initiatives also provide accessible and affordable charging infrastructure, contributing to the growth of the German fast-charging network. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, it's clear that competition among providers will remain fierce, ensuring that drivers have a wide range of options for fast and reliable charging.
