Race kicks off for Audi to close the gap

Audi is gearing up for an electrified future, with a host of new electric and hybrid models set to join its lineup. The German automaker has announced that it will only continue the SUV variant of the Q4 e-tron, discarding the Sportback derivative.

The third generation of the Audi Q7 is starting, promising more range and higher charging power. This model will share the same powertrains as the A7, another upcoming offering from Audi. The Q7 is expected in the same year as the Q9, a much-discussed super SUV primarily aimed at the markets in China and the USA.

Audi is also launching the A7 and the Audi Q3 Sportback in the near future. The A7, based on the PPC platform, will have its market launch in the summer of 2025, with the A7 Avant following soon after. The new Q3 will continue to be based on the MQB evo, with only four-cylinder engines under the hood. The Sportback variant of the new Q3 will go into series production at the beginning of 2026.

The new Q5, one of Audi's most successful models, will continue to be built in San José Chiapa, Mexico. The new Q5 will use the same technology as the A5, with first deliveries expected in spring 2026. The A5 will debut the plug-in hybrid, available in two performance levels in 2023. The new Q5 will offer electrified gasoline and diesel engines, with mild hybrids getting an 18 kW electric motor.

Audi's model offensive is unprecedented in the company's history, involving logistics, marketing, sales, and production. The company is also planning to bring independent electric models to the market in China soon, possibly involving a Chinese partner for the A8 e-tron.

For 2027, an electric counterpart to the A3 based on the further developed MEB (Evo II) is planned. It's unclear whether Audi will use the name of its legendary aluminum compact car A2 for this model. The Audi A2 might come back, marking another step in Audi's electrification strategy.

The Q6 e-tron, Q6 Sportback e-tron, A6 Sportback e-tron, and A6 Avant e-tron, based on the new PPE platform, are also part of Audi's electric vehicle plans. Plug-in hybrids will be available in two power systems, with a battery providing up to 100 kilometers of electric range and supporting up to 50 kW charging.

As Audi moves towards a more electrified future, it's clear that the company is committed to innovation and sustainability. With a diverse range of new models on the horizon, Audi is poised to lead the way in the electric vehicle market.
